During Chinese New Year 2011, Pizza Hut rolled out a limited-time pizza inspired by ancient cash coins — a round pie with a square cut-out in the centre. The playful design tied into the season’s prosperity theme and made the release a small talking point across food blogs at the time.
What was on the “Ring of Fortune”?
- Golden pumpkin paste with taro — a nod to “gold” and hopes of a good year ahead
 - Pineapple — commonly used to symbolize prosperity
 - Diced barbecue chicken with mushrooms
 - Pok chui (crispy dough) for extra crunch

To keep the festive spirit going, the promotion also featured lucky-number giveaways: customers stood a chance to win cash prizes of $888 or $88 with qualifying purchases — eights being considered auspicious during CNY.

Launched for Chinese New Year 2011, Pizza Hut Malaysia introduced the Ring of Fortune pizza as a festive twist on classic pan pizza. The design echoed ancient cash coins, featuring a distinctive square cut-out in the centre to symbolize prosperity. The toppings leaned into CNY symbolism and local tastes: chargrilled chicken, red capsicum, pineapple tidbits, and yellow onion, all set on a special dough and finished with a rich, golden edge.
Both inner and outer crusts were stuffed with three cheeses, delivering a molten, pull-apart experience that encouraged sharing at reunion tables. To boost crunch and visual flair, the crust was sprinkled with crispy “cornflakes”—a playful textural contrast that matched the gold-and-red festive palette seen across the campaign.
For a limited period, customers could enjoy 30% off the Ring of Fortune (à la carte) with Maybankard, applicable to dine-in and takeaway (standard terms & conditions applied). The promotion ran alongside Pizza Hut’s “Eat. Laugh. Share.” theme, positioning the Ring of Fortune as a celebratory centrepiece for CNY gatherings.
